#002 – Andrew George’s Red Special
This one has a bit of a story behind it. While our first guitar (the green #001) was waiting to be delivered, Andrew George dropped by and had a go on it. He clearly liked what he heard and felt, and before long we were talking about building him a Brian May Red Special, as close to the real thing as possible with one exception… The sixpence recessed into the headstock with resin rather than it placed there as a afterthought.
Once we agreed on the details, work got underway. It took around 10 months from start to finish, with plenty of updates and fine-tuning along the way.
The finished guitar was handed over to Andrew at the Red Special Guitar Meet-Up in 2021, which felt like the perfect place for it.
Andrew wasted no time in getting his new guitar snapped with some celebrities to the RS world, photos with Brian’s then guitar tech Pete Malandrone and Singer/Song writer Arielle, also featured with her home built guitar Two Tone as well as a fabulous replica from Andy Guyton of Guyton Guitars!
Build #002 is finished in a nitrocellulose clear coat and fitted with Yonderbosk Tri-Sonics® pickups. It’s a proper Red Special through and through, and it turned out great.
Always nice when a project starts from someone just having a quick play on another guitar!
